Bangkok was very good this time around. The Dragon Five Social Club was a perfect introduction into Bangkok. We meet some really great people and plan on meeting up with them later this month. I got to see more of the city than Zoey because she was sick most of the time and stayed in. I didn't really want to leave the social club or Bangkok. I am glad she got us out of there, because where we are now is paradise.
We left the big city aboard yet another train. This one was really nice. We got a second class sleeper car, that had maybe 12 seats that converted into 12 beds. The tickets, like everything out here, were cheap, around 1000 baht, or $30. The train ride was around 13 hours, and neither of us slept very well. We arrived in a small city where we caught a bus that took us to a port about an hour away. During the bus ride the rains came down pretty hard. We saw the aftermath of an out of control truck flipped upside down, and another one turned on its side that was full of clay pots. The pots were scattered all over the road. In Thailand, the most popular way of taxi are scooters and motorcycles. I was watching this scooter taxi drive in the rain and the passenger was holding and umbrella to keep them dry. The wind got a hold of the umbrella and it blocked the drivers view. I thought, that guy can't see a thing. Sure enough, at about 25 mph, he slammed into the back of stopped truck, throwing both people off the scooter. The bus moved on but I think both people were hurt, and the scooter was out of commission.
The bus got us to the port, and from there we took a ferry to the island of Koh Pha Ngan. The ferry took abot three and a half hours. The views were amazing passing countless islands.
I was so tired on the ferry ride, and tryed to sleep as much as possible. Sleep was hard to get because the boat was so bumpy. We got off the ferry, and were greeted by lost of Thai women asking us where we were going. They were very pushy, and if we didn't know exactly where we were going I think we would have been ripped off. They ushered us to a taxi that would take us to a small village. The taxi ride was great. The taxi was an old s-10 sized pickup truck, that could hold maybe 8 people in the back. It was very fast, and weaved in and out of traffic. When it dropped us off we knew we were getting closer to our resort, but still couldn't quite get there. We found the beach, and found a water taxi. This is the only way to the part of the island we wanted to stay on. No roads went there. I guess there are some trails in the jungle, but it would have been a long hike and somewhat tricky to find where we needed to go.
The taxi was a blast. It was a long boat, with a motorcycle engine mounted to the back, with a fan that went maybe 10 feet into the water. It was loud, fast, bumpy and incredibly wet. The taxi got us to a beautiful beach, and amazing lush plants, that separated the buildings from the sand. We found the resort that we had read about online, it was called the Sanctuary. This resort was different from the other ones on the island because they focused on health, yoga, and detoxification. Just what we needed after all this traveling.
The whole resort is absolutely gorgeous. Because of the difficulty it takes to get to this part of the island, almost all the building materials are from right here. The roofs are made of palms, the walls are also of natural material. The huge boulders that are all over the place have been Incorporated in to the personality of all the buildings. I think just glass and other specialty items needed to be brought over. We are renting a bungalow, here at the resort. And it is so nice. We have our own space, and the way the bungalows are seperated out, we feel totally secluded.
Here are some pictures of our place. The bathroom is very nice and is exposed to the outside. Now you cant see in, but the rain and small animals can get inside. The first night we stayed here I found a huge toad just chilling on top of the mirror. I like the bathroom, because we have a western style toilet and toilet paper.
The hammok is on our balcony, and fits the both of us just fine. The bed we have is huge and comes with a misquieto net.
Here are some pictures of the resort grounds. Ill get more up, but do to the rain, I haven't brought the camera out much. O yeah... I forgot to say that this place is like 25 bucks a night. Super cheap.
Sorry this was a bad post more to come later....
